Vacancy: Concrete Carpenter Foreman




Overview:

Ralph L Wadsworth Construction (RLW) is looking for a few Concrete Carpenter Foreman who is experience in overseeing and managing form building / form setting with large concrete structures (Box Culverts, Tunnels, bridges, commercial size footings and foundations, parking structures). The ideal candidate will have had experience in building large concrete structures as a Rough Carpenter and has moved into leadership roles to supervisor workers.
The Foreman will supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in construction, installation, and repair of wooden structures and fixtures projects ranging in cost from zero to 10 million dollars by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. May be designated to work away from home for extended periods according to project’s needs.

Responsibilities:

The Foreman responsibilities and abilities include but are not limited to the list below. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Read, understand, interpret and enforce safety policies and practices.
  • Examines blueprints to determine dimensions of structure.
  • Lays out floor-plan/worksite as needed.
  • Determines sequence of activities concerned with fabrication, assembly, and erection of structure.
  • Assigns workers to such tasks as cutting material to size, building concrete forms, erecting wooden framework, and laying flooring.
  • Inspects work performed by subordinates to ensure quality.
  • Supervises workers engaged in building timber structures such as cofferdams, trestles, and supports for concrete forms.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product to increase efficiency of work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, assists workers in solving work problems, and initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintain a general knowledge of equipment used on the job including basic understanding of equipment limits and designed purposes.
  • As directed by the Superintendent, assists with ordering supplies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manages 0-8 subordinate employee; namely Carpenters/Finishers and Laborers. The Foreman is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of Supervisor or Lead concrete bridge carpentry work experience – supervising bridge carpenters, laborers, and concrete finishers.
  • A minimum of 8 years of concrete carpenter work experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years of work experience and understanding of concrete forms, form setting in bridge work, parking structures, and / or commercial concrete foundations.
  • A minimum of 4 years of reading blueprints work experience in bridge work, parking structures, and / or commercial concrete footings and foundations.
  • Education – four or more years related experience and / or training; or a bachelor degree from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
